Next weekend, the waters of Lake Garda off Malcesine will become the stage for the EuroCup Asso99 2026, the class's European Championship. From Friday 28 to Sunday 30 August, Fraglia Vela Malcesine will host crews from all over Europe for three days of racing set to be as hard-fought as the fleet's tradition demands.

The Asso99, a class renowned for its speed and consistently high level of competition, returns to Lake Garda's waters — a racing ground that over the years has delivered spectacular wind conditions and memorable regattas to the fleet.
As is customary for the class, participation is shaping up to be strongly international: among the boats already entered are numerous Italian, German and Hungarian crews, confirming the Asso99's European vocation. Among the confirmed protagonists is Albino Fravezzi, the "Doge of Garda," a veteran of the local fleet and one of the most decorated and feared helmsmen of recent years. Also on the start line will be Luitpold Prinz von Bayern, a historic figure of the German Asso99 scene, head of the class association in Germany and a regular at international regattas on the Chiemsee and the Starnberger See. Also highly anticipated is the Asterisco crew, helmed by Pierluigi Omboni, the reigning Italian champion, called upon to defend his title against a fleet that promises to be particularly fierce. Alongside them, all the great names who have shaped the class's championships for years: the ingredients for three days of hard-fought racing, generational duels and international rivalry are all there.
Entries for the EuroCup will remain open until Tuesday 25 August: interested crews can register through Fraglia Vela Malcesine's official portal, where the updated list of entered boats is also available. All information regarding the notice of race, schedules and official communications will be published on the event's dedicated Notice Board.
The event is organized by Fraglia Vela Malcesine, a club with well-established experience in running international sailing events on Lake Garda.
The appointment, then, is for the weekend of 28-30 August: three days in which Malcesine will become the reference point for the Asso99 Class in Europe, amid hard-fought racing, sporting spirit and the unique setting of Lake Garda, ahead of the further commitments awaiting the fleet later in the season.
